Time Zone Converter
Convert a time from one time zone to another instantly.
How to Use the Time Zone Converter
Select the date and time you want to convert, choose your source time zone from the list, then choose the destination time zone. The converter on daycalctools.com calculates the correct equivalent time instantly and correctly adjusts for daylight saving time (DST) transitions. Your local time zone is pre-selected automatically.
The tool uses the IANA time zone database, which is the industry-standard source for time zone rules used by operating systems, programming languages, and browsers worldwide. This means DST transitions, historical rule changes, and UTC offsets are all handled correctly for each zone.
When Do You Need a Time Zone Converter?
Converting between time zones is a daily necessity in our connected world:
- Remote work meetings — Schedule video calls with colleagues in different countries without confusing anyone about the time.
- International travel — Know what time it will be at your destination when you land, and avoid confusion at check-in.
- Online events and webinars — Convert a broadcast time to your local time so you do not miss a live stream or presentation.
- Stock market and trading hours — Understand when global markets open and close in your local time zone.
- Sports and entertainment — Find out the local kickoff time for an international match or when a new TV series episode drops.
- Software development and logging — Convert UTC timestamps from server logs to local time for debugging purposes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the converter account for daylight saving time?
Yes. Daylight saving time is handled automatically. The tool uses your browser's built-in time zone support, which follows the IANA time zone database. When a date in your conversion falls within a DST period, the correct offset is applied — so a New York summer conversion will use EDT (UTC−4) instead of EST (UTC−5).
What time zones are supported?
The tool includes over 45 of the most commonly used IANA time zones, covering all major regions of the world including the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. UTC is also included as a reference zone.
Can a time zone conversion change the date?
Yes. Converting across the international date line or between zones with large UTC offsets can result in the date being one day earlier or later than the source. For example, 11 PM on Tuesday in New York is Wednesday morning in London. The converter shows the full date alongside the converted time so you never lose track of the day.
What is UTC and why is it important?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the primary international time standard. It does not observe daylight saving time and has no time zone offset. Servers, aviation, navigation, and many software systems use UTC as a universal reference, and all other time zones are expressed as positive or negative offsets from UTC.
Why does my detected time zone look different from what I expected?
The tool pre-selects your local time zone using the Intl API in your browser, which reads the time zone from your device's system settings. If your device is set to a different time zone than your physical location (for example, you are traveling and have not updated your clock), the pre-selected zone may differ from your current location.
